Bio

After more than ten years of playing together as a trio, the three can apparently read each other’s musical minds…. An interaction that is rarely offered so perfectly”. Wolfgang Sandner, biographer of Miles Davis and Keith Jarret.

Without being guided by fads or the phonographic market, the trio formed by Henrique Gomide (piano), João Fideles (drums) and Noa Stroeter (bass) reaches its twelfth year of activity.

In an absolutely autonomous and coherent path, the musicians of Caixa Cubo play what they want, what moves them. Whether getting into more experimental sounds, as in the electric albums Saturno, Quartzo and CANI; or in a presenting a fresh approach of the timeless repertoire of Brazilian music styles as in the albums Misturada and Enigma – A Música de Garoto (Pau Brasil Music).

The trio’s seventh album Angela (Heavenly Recordings) was chosen by BBC 6, Gilles Peterson and Bandcamp as one of their albums of the year for 2020.

The trio performed a showcase at Jazzahead! in 2022 and has played on stages like Jazz à Vienne (France), Riverboat Jazz Festival (Denmark), Breda Jazz Festival (Holland), Auditório Ibirapuera (Brazil) and Jazzkeller Frankfurt (Germany) and shared the stage with musicians like Yamandu Costa, Tony Lakatos, John Rucco, Nailor Proveta and Paulo Belinatti.

Long-time friends, the tight sound of Caixa Cubo reflects a joy of playing and a musical interaction that invariably thrills audiences wherever they perform. Check them out!
